In the short story “Cathedral” by Raymond Carter, a man has trouble seeing the world and understanding. All his life the narrator had simply looked at things with his eyes and considered he was able to see things, but couldn’t understand his wife, Robert, or other things like a cathedral and poetry. The narrator’swife and he live in a town in CT where the wife’s friend Robert is coming to visit. When the narrator first met his wife he learned that ten years ago she worked with Robert in a summer when she needed a job to pay for her wedding by reading case studies, reports, and helped Robert organize his office in the county social-service department. After the summer ended Robert and the wife had become very good friends and on the last day they were together Robert got permission from the wife to feel her face, and the way Robert felt the wife’s face made her so happy that she tried to write a poem about it and tell the narrator about the experience in every great detail possible. Since the wife appears to be caring, compassionate, and smart the reader may come to the assumption………………………..
