The Unit 5 will explore the two broad categories of behavior function, i.e., attainment and avoidance/escape of an aversive stimulus (situation). This will focus on how you hypothesize the functions of behavior based upon your analyses of the antecedents and consequences of specific behaviors. You will become familiar with cultural and societal influences on behavior and how those influences impact your behavior intervention designs. Finally, you will learn some of the function-based approaches to modifying behavior. Make every effort to complete the reading beforehand so you are able to discuss the following:
