I honestly, had the same exact thought with Carol. I personally memorize things before I learn. It makes it easier for me. Carol is necessary to know prefix, roots, and suffix by heart because it is a language used in health care to communicate patient diagnosis, treatment and disease. If you learn and understand these terms, roots, prefix, suffix, it helps you to comprehend what is been discussed and to read on patient charts. There is nothing wrong with memorizing, but you can easily forget. Learning the prefix and suffix break those terms down, makes learning easier than memorizing them.

  • These medical terminologies are used to standardize the language in the medical setting. For me, learning the suffixes, prefixes, and roots is actually easier than memorizing each term. I can either break down a term or put all the keys together. For example, I would respond to Carol that learning the roots, suffixes, and prefixes will not only make memorizing the terms easier but also it will make her knowledge more flexible. As the suffixes and prefixes will have the same meaning and put in the word or root. By this, she can break down the term into a simpler form. It is like knowing the basics, as some terms could be long and complicated. For instance, suffix -logy which means -the study or could be used in terms like cardiology and pathology. Knowing that -logy is referring to the study of something, then she won’t be confused that -logist which is the person who studies.

The major factor that put me at risk for osteoporosis is that I am a woman, I’m Asian and because I get no exercise. i used to do 6 different sports but ever since graduating high school I have no motivation to exercise and now my muscles turned to fat and I gained weight and feel drained like I have no energy. I should almost start my nursing program soo much will even give me less time to workout. Being Asian is another high factor risk and I can’t do much about that and I’m grateful for my ethnicity I just have to watch what I eat and do more exercise. i need to eat foods high in calcium or take supplements that will cover that area.

Phytochemicals are compounds found in plants such as fruits and vegetables. Phytochemicals have been essential to human health, and a significant one is Beta Carotene. Beta carotene is a precursor of vitamin A which is essential for the health of the skin and immune system. Beta carotene is not an essential nutrient but has significant benefits to human health.

Beta carotene is a significant carotenoid that serves as an antioxidant. In essence, as an antioxidant, the beta carotene protects the body from free radicals, reinforces the human immune system, and therefore reduces the risk of developing heart disease and cancer (Jeyakodi et al., 1). Beta carotene reduces the risk of cancers such as lung cancer and breast cancer. Beta carotene is essential in slowing down cognitive decline as its antioxidant function suppresses oxidative stress. Beta carotenes are beneficial in keeping the lungs healthy as individual ages. Oxygen-free radicals damage lungs; hence, adequate blood beta carotene levels protect the body from the free radicals by inhibiting other molecules’ oxidation (Jeyakodi et al., 2). The human body needs an adequate supply of beta carotenes which can be achieved by consuming carrots, broccoli, and Apricots. Other foods rich in beta carotenes include kale, grapefruit, spinach, and pumpkin.

Finally, adequate beta carotene is essential as vital nutrients for vision. A smoker can reduce their risk of muscular degeneration through high carotene intake. Besides, beta carotene is significant in the cell growth and maintenance of healthy organs such as the heart, lungs, and kidneys. Beta carotenes protect the skin against UV radiation from the sun. However, there is a need to take precautions with beta carotene supplements, as in excessive levels, they cause orange-yellow skin discoloration.
