The purpose of the Discussion Board is to allow students to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the DB question. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each unit.

As a new member of the production planning management staff, you will be expected to help develop strategies to support the expanded growth plans. Your team faces several fundamental issues. First, are the individual plant layouts conducive to the expanded growth expected by the company? Second, are individual plant layouts optimized for the most efficient performance and lowest cost? Third, is the existing supply chain interaction among all the various components optimized in the same manner individual layouts are expected to be optimized? Finally, your group must consider capacity planning and workflow to ensure the company can meet its contractual obligations with the maximum revenue and profitability.

Consider the following: 

As the company’s newest production planning staff member, you’ve been asked to join one of three teams: Strategic Planning, Tactical Planning, or Detailed Production Planning.  Discuss the elements of each component planning group.      Detail what do they do, give examples, and tell their timeframe for      planning. Select a team to join and defend your rationale as to      why it is most strategic and why you would be the most useful in that      planning group.
