Prepare: So far in this class, you have reflected upon past positive experiences in Week One, explored strategies for effective time-management in Week Two, learned much about your personality by completing Step 1 of the TypeFocus in Week Three, and identified careers that fit you best (Step 2 of the TypeFocus) in Week Four. Now it is time to put it all together and set career goals based on what you have learned about yourself, your values, and your interests.

To help you complete this discussion, download the Creating a Career Action Planning Checklist and check the boxes of the actions you plan to take in order to achieve your career goals. You will not submit the checklist, but use the information to help you formulate your responses to the following questions.

Reflect Icon Reflect: Think about your career plans. Are you on track with those plans by pursuing your chosen major at Ashford University? Consider the steps you need to take now (other than school) to prepare yourself for your chosen career. What steps can you take later? Reflect on how you will hold yourself accountable and keep yourself motivated toward your goals.
 
Write Icon Write: Use information from your checklist to help you formulate your responses to the following questions:

  • Describe your short-term career plan (one month to one year). Identify two items from your checklist, and explain how completing these tasks will help you meet this short-term goal.
  • Describe your long-term career plan (one to five years). Identify at least two items from your checklist, and explain how completing these tasks will help you meet this long-term goal.
  • How will you use the available Ashford University resources (e.g., Ashford Career Services, Ashford Writing Center, faculty, advisors, etc.) to help you meet your career goals?
