2) PEER REVIEW (JUDY)

Hi, Professor Erhart and Classmates,

Search online for your local news website and locate local a story where you believe an ethical dilemma is going on. Please keep this story local and not national news.

Story: Ex-Coach accused of molesting boys since ’80s pleads guilty.

A former wrestling coach was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated child molestation. He previously admitted to sexually assaulting two boys in Pennsylvania and sentenced there to serve 20 years in prison. Then he moved to Georgia and molested a 14-year-old boy from Pennsylvania at his home in Marietta Georgia

Explain, in a few sentences the story, the ethical dilemma you believe is going on in the story, and how you think it can be resolved.

Ethical dilemma: I believe the ethical dilemma was that this coach was entrusted with the lives of our children to teach and nurture them. He took advantage of the situation by inappropriately touching and molesting the children. He abused his authority and the moral of the story is that this man was morally wrong in the behavior that he displayed in this society and against the law.

Resolution: Since we are seeing this behavior more often nowadays we need to be proactive, we must put in place mechanisms that will detour this type of behavior. We need to have a nationwide database the police, schools, civic associations would have access to. There should be some sort of vetting process just as they have stipulations on the molesters after they become molesters in each state. Maybe this could have been prevented if we had a national database that would connect from state to state. What we have now is every state for himself. We entrust these people to protect our children and contribute to their wellbeing not to hurt them.

3) PEER REVIEW (ASHLEY)

An Ethical Dilemma

The story involves a man who had Parkinson’s disease for eight years, and his body was rigid and immobile. Also, the condition of his body prohibited movement; therefore, he had to leave his job. His first medication could no longer have a positive impact on the disease even when he increased the doses. He later on decided to try an alternative form of a drug.

The primary issue in this story is the alternative medication used by the man in curing the Parkinson’s disease. The treatment involved the insertion of several transplant tissues from an aborted fetus. The tissue grafts were obtained from an aborted fetus, which are between 6.5 to 9 weeks old. After the treatment was administered, there was a positive impact on the patient. He went back to his daily routine and the amount of medication administered to him reduced. However, after the patient succumbed to death from a separate illness, the doctors studied his brain to see whether the fetal transplants were successful. Indeed, the fetal neurons had replaced the damaged the brain cells. The main controversy is the use of the aborted fetus, which has led to opposition from pro-life forces. Furthermore, they foresee the possibility of women having an intended abortion to sell the fetus and some to save their loved ones.

Aborted fetus from ectopic pregnancies and miscarriages can be used in the treatment of the Parkinson’s disease and other disorders caused by the brain cells damage. Doctors to determine the authentic of the fetus should carry out appropriate tests. Women who are found to have illegally carried out an abortion should be prosecuted. Furthermore, more research should be conducted to determine whether there are other alternative treatments rather than the use of aborted fetus.
