Discussion: Recognizing a Problem

There is a tendency among managers to quickly resolve problems even though they may not full understand or appreciate the many causal factors contributing to the problem. As a result, these managers function like firefighters, putting quick fixes to problems in hopes that they will be resolved. In reality, some problems are resolved whereas, in many cases, the perceived solution is short lived and non-effective.   On the other hand, there are managers who suffer from a phenomenon known as “analysis paralysis”. They become so obsessed with identifying and analyzing “all” of the casual factors associated with a problem that the manager may never get around to implementing a solution.

Keeping in mind the case of the home health agency that we have discussed since Module 1. As Sara’s supervisor, how would you approach her case to ensure timely solution is implemented in regards to the concern of disease outbreak? What are the limitations of your approach?

Assignment 1: Revised Thesis Statement

By Saturday, May 30, 2015, post to the Discussion Area a revised thesis statement and an annotated bibliography containing a minimum of four scholarly sources.

At this point, you have received a good deal of feedback on your topic in general and on your thesis statement specifically. After completing your research proposal last module, you should have a solid vision of the argument you plan to make in your essay. Now, take all of that information and revise your thesis statement accordingly, incorporating any relevant feedback from your classmates and instructor as well as any new ideas or perspectives you’ve developed as you have delved further into your research.

In addition to your revised thesis statement, you will also post an annotated bibliography consisting of four scholarly sources. These four sources must be peer-reviewed and current. You may use sources you included in your tentative bibliography, or you may need to do further research to find new sources.

An annotated bibliography consists of a reference citation in APA format, followed by an annotation, or explanation, of how the source relates specifically to the thesis statement and supporting points. For the purpose of this assignment, your annotations should briefly summarize your source and explain exactly how the source will be used to support your thesis statement. Each annotation should be three to four sentences long. Below is an example of an annotated bibliography entry for one source:

This paper proposes the justice of making marijuana legal at a federal level as a controlled substance while taking 2 standpoints where the drugs benefits is more than the associated risks and also since there are inconsistencies with the current legal policies on the issue of marijuana as compared to both legal and illegal drugs that are more dangerous. Specifically, the paper will compare benefits and risks of legalizing marijuana against those of the most common legal recreational drug that are currently being used today. In specific it will look at cigarettes and alcohol.

This paper tries to avoid discussing legalization of medical marijuana since research show that12 states already have allowed the use of marijuana in medicinal purposes and today there are over 2000 legal marijuana dispensaries all over the nation. However, the possession and usage of the drug is still illegal under the federal law. Media played the major role to increase stereotyping in UK. The median focused on the radicalization of Islamic youths residing in UK by linking them to inadequate integration processes. The police departments were given direct orders to overcome the impacts from the incidents and punish the anti-social activists swiftly. Most of the Muslim male youths were harassed in UK after the incidents and the civil society of UK turned against the entire Muslim community. The number of reported incidents against the Muslim community and their worship places increased immediately after the bombing incidents of London. This research paper focuses on the impact of London bombings on racial profiling.

On the 7th of July, a series of suicide bomb attacks were conducted in Central London. The attacks were majorly conducted to create massacre among the civilians using the public transport system. According to reports, it has been observed that four British Islamist men had detonated four bombs. Among the four bombs, three of them were detonated in the underground trains across the city. The fourth bomb was detonated on a double-decker bus. Almost one hour after the underground train attacks the fourth bomb was detonated on the number 30 bus (Goldstein 21). The attack occurred in Tavistock square, resulting in multiple injuries and death of innocent civilians. The incident occurred on a Tuesday, leaving 52 civilians dead and more than 700 injured. This incident has been regarded as the worst attacks, since 1988, i.e. the Lockerbie bombing.

Before the London bombing incident, several other attacks took place in UK resulting in loss of many lives and properties. One of the most disastrous attacks occurred on 30 October, 1883. Two bombs exploded in the London underground railways in Paddington and Westminster Bridge station.
